Art in Mind Exhibition Celebrates Creativity, Connection and Wellbeing

South Powys Mind is delighted to invite the local community to our upcoming Art in Mind Exhibition at St Mary’s Church this June: a celebration of creativity, self-expression, friendship and the positive impact art can have on mental health and wellbeing.

The exhibition will take place on the 10th, 11th and 12th June 2026 and will showcase artwork created by members of our weekly Art in Mind group.

Opening times are:

  • 9.30am – 12.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday
  • 9.30am – 2.30pm on Friday

Entry is free and everyone is warmly welcome.

Creativity Without Judgement

Art in Mind is a weekly creative wellbeing group run every Tuesday from 1pm – 4pm at our Wellbeing Centre in Brecon.

Led by volunteer artist and teacher Veronica Gibson, the group provides a calm, friendly and supportive environment where people are encouraged to explore creativity in a relaxed and playful way.

The focus is not on perfection or artistic experience, but on self-expression, confidence, connection, and wellbeing. Members work on a wide range of creative projects using different materials, techniques, and mediums, with the freedom to explore their own ideas at their own pace.

There is a large selection of art books available for inspiration, along with a variety of materials to experiment with, and members are also welcome to bring along their own projects and supplies.

Most importantly, Art in Mind is a welcoming space where people can simply come as they are.

The Positive Impact of Creativity on Wellbeing

Creativity can be a powerful tool for supporting mental health and wellbeing. For many members, the group offers not only a chance to create, but also an opportunity to connect with others, build confidence, reduce isolation, and enjoy a sense of calm and community.

The atmosphere within the group is supportive and encouraging, with people often sharing ideas, advice, conversation, and peer support while working on their individual projects.

This year’s exhibition celebrates not only the artwork itself, but also the friendships, personal journeys and sense of community that have developed through the group.

Remembering Chee Ai

This year’s exhibition will also include a special tribute to former member Chee Ai, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Chee Ai was a valued and much-loved member of Art in Mind, and the group brought her much joy, creativity and friendship. Her artwork will feature as part of the exhibition in celebration of her creativity and the lasting impact she had on those around her.

We are honoured to share and remember her work as part of this year’s exhibition.

Visit the Exhibition

We would love for the community to come along, explore the artwork, and learn more about the positive role creativity can play in supporting mental health and wellbeing.
