Why Volunteer?

Everyone has something to offer. Whether you have an hour a month or several hours a week, we’d love to help you find a volunteering role that feels right for you.

Volunteering is a chance to connect with others, build confidence, learn new skills, share your experience and make a real difference in your local community. It can be rewarding, meaningful and a great way to meet new people.

Every volunteer helps us increase our impact, build a stronger, more sustainable organisation and raise vital funds to support mental health across South Powys.

I started helping out on an ad-hoc basis and now volunteer regularly at community events. It’s been a great way to meet people

If you’d like to be part of something bigger than yourself, give back to your community, share your skills and knowledge, or simply try something new, we’d love to hear from you – simply fill out the form.

Hi, I’m Ali.

Finding the right volunteering opportunity should feel exciting, not intimidating.

Whether you know exactly what you’d like to do or you’re just curious, I’d love to chat.

Find me in our Wellbeing Centre (Ty Croeso, St David’s House, 48 Free St, Brecon) every Tuesday afternoon 1-4pm.

Volunteer FAQS

Q1: Who can volunteer with South Powys Mind?

A1: Anyone is welcome to volunteer with us! You don’t need to have experience, you don’t need to make a regular commitment (though you’re welcome to), you don’t need to have a ton of knowledge about mental health or the care sector. We welcome a wide range of people into volunteering, with everyone finding their own place along the way.

Q2: Do I get support and training as a volunteer?

A2: Absolutely! We believe passionately about supporting and developing our volunteers, and this is something you’ll discuss with our Volunteer & Community Manager, Ali, when you first reach out.

Q3: How much time do I have to commit?

A3: We don’t ask for any set amount of time – whether you have an hour a month or several hours a week, are able to stick around for a summer break or for multiple years, we’d love to hear from you.

Q4: Can I have something specific in mind for Volunteering?

A4: Of course. If you’ve been inspired by a particular project or group then we will look at situating you within that environment. Likewise, if you come to us with an idea you have, be that for a regular group or fundraising, we’re very open to hearing more about this!

Q6: Can I claim any expenses?

A6: We do have an expenses and travel claims procedure for all staff and volunteers and this will be discussed and agreed upon on an individual basis with the CEO or Volunteer & Community Manager.

Q8: What happens after I get in touch?

A8: If you fill in our form at the top of this page – or email or call Ali directly, she will be in touch as soon as she is able (many of our staff work part time so please bear with us). Next up is just an informal chat about why you’d like to volunteer, and what (if anything) you have in mind. You might be invited along to a group or event to have a taster.

After this, we might ask you to fill in a more formal volunteer application form and, if the volunteer role requires it, we may also request a DBS check for you along with references.
