Reflecting, reconnecting and refocusing: Spring Team’s Day at Coleg Trefeca

Our Spring Team’s Day at Coleg Trefeca, which is a beautiful, rural, period property based near Brecon, provided an important opportunity for colleagues across South Powys Mind to come together in person, to step back from day-to-day delivery and reflect on the deeper purpose that underpins our work.

While time to connect as a team is always valuable, days like this are not simply about gathering, rather, they are about strengthening the foundations that allow us to better serve our communities.

We began the day with a reminder of something that sits at the heart of our work: the importance of sustaining our own wellbeing in order to support others effectively. This set the tone for a day focused on reflection, connection and shared purpose.

Throughout the day, we revisited the values that guide us – kindness, honesty, connection and learning –  and considered how these are not only reflected in our services, but in how we show up within our communities and in each other’s lives.

Connecting local work to national impact

We were grateful to welcome Simon Stephens from Mind Cymru, who spoke about the wider Mind network across Wales and how local organisations like South Powys Mind contribute to a collective system of mental health and wellbeing support.

This helped reinforce an important message; that our work is part of something much broader and that local insight and delivery are essential to the strength of the national picture.

Learning from community-led work and lived experience

The day also highlighted the breadth of work taking place across our projects.

From updates on Gabe’s Archaeology for Mental Wellbeing, to new developments in women’s health support from volunteer Sam, to James sharing about Green Minds’ growing recognition through upcoming media coverage, each contribution reflected the creativity and commitment embedded in community-based support.

A shared mindfulness session outdoors offered a chance to pause and reconnect with nature, reinforcing the role that environment and place can play in supporting mental wellbeing.

Looking ahead with clarity and purpose

Time was also spent reflecting on organisational direction, including how our values continue to shape both our internal culture and the services we provide. These conversations help ensure that as an organisation, we remain grounded in what matters most: meaningful support for individuals and communities across South Powys.

We ended the day as we began it with a reminder of connection, gratitude and shared purpose.
