Walking the Camino for South Powys Mind: Cathy’s 270km Challenge

£405of £500.00 raised

We’re incredibly grateful to one of our dedicated volunteers, Cathy Genevie, who is taking on an inspiring personal challenge to support us here at South Powys Mind.

Cathy will be walking 270km along the Camino de Santiago trail in Spain, using this powerful journey not only as a way to reset and heal, but also to raise vital funds for our community.

About Cathy

Cathy is a retired yoga teacher and Medical Massage Therapist – and formerly a Mental Health Therapist and Social Worker. Having recently experienced several significant loses, and finding her trusted coping strategies were no longer working to shift the heaviness she was feeling, Cathy struck upon the idea of walking the Camino de Santiago – a challenge she has long wanted to take on but for various reasons had not, until this point, found the right moment to embark.

With the time now available to her, and the desire to focus on the simple goal of putting one foot in front of the other, Cathy is embracing this challenge as a much needed reset as well as an opportunity to raise funds for a charity she feels passionately about.

I volunteer for South Powys Mind at the Wellbeing Centre in Brecon and would be so pleased if my efforts to find a way through my own challenge by doing this 270km walk could also help support mental health and wellbeing in our local area. I would be so grateful if anyone who is able could make a donation to South Powys Mind for my efforts. They are an incredible resource in our community and will put your donations to such good use!

About the Challenge

The Camino de Santiago is a historic pilgrimage route across northern Spain walked by hundreds of thousands of people each year. Traditionally a journey of reflection and personal growth, the Camino involves walking long distances day after day – often across varied and challenging terrain.

For Cathy, this is no small feat. She’ll be walking 270km, all while managing osteoarthritis in both hips, a torn meniscus in her right knee and other ongoing health concerns. Her determination to take on this challenge is a testament to her resilience and commitment, not only to her own wellbeing, but to supporting others with their wellbeing.

Please join us in supporting Cathy by donating below. Any amount is gratefully appreciated, and every penny raised stays within our local community.
